5 Tips To Get Your Best Shampoo Routine

If your hair is natural, you know how important it is to stick to the hair regimen that works best for you. NaturAll prides itself on providing the best products to support a healthy hair journey. Everyone’s crown is unique to them, which means that wash routines can differ greatly as well.

Determining how often to wash your hair requires you to be mindful of how your crown is looking and feeling. Read on to learn the truth about shampoo, and 5 tips to make sure you're getting the most out of your shampoo routine!

1. Listen to your hair!

Start by washing it once a week, and if that works, try extending your time between washes by a few days to see how your hair feels. If your scalp becomes itchy, dirty, oily, flaky, or if it feels like your moisturizing products aren't working as well, it’s probably time for a wash. But if your hair feels dry and stripped, you might be using shampoo too often. With a little experimentation, you should be able to find out the interval of time that your hair prefers. Once you do, stick to it!

2. Use a clarifying, sulfate free shampoo.

If you’re known to pile on styling products and experience significant product buildup, you may want to use a clarifying shampoo between styles to achieve a clean scalp and wash away any flakes or excess product.

3. Use a natural shampoo.

One of the best shampoos out there is NaturAll’s Hydrating Avocado and Kiwi Shampoo. We wanted a sulfate-free, all natural shampoo and couldn't find one, so we made our own! We formulated this product carefully using only non-toxic and natural ingredients to create a sulfate-free shampoo that thoroughly cleanses, while maintaining the natural balance of moisture for your hair and scalp, all powered by nutrient-rich avocado.

4. Try a Co-Wash or Apple Cider Vinegar.

If you don’t usually apply styling products, or if you have 4c hair, 4b hair, or 4a hair that tends to dry easily, you may be able to go longer between washes. You can tell if your scalp still looks and feels clean a week after you shampoo. For those that don’t need a deep clean, but still have dry hair, we recommend “co-washing” which means using a conditioner instead of shampoo.

Co-washing with products like NaturAll’s Hydrating Avocado Conditioner provides your hair with intense moisture, and allows water to wash over your hair and loosen any oils that may be lingering on your strands. You can alternate co-wash and shampoo to keep your hair and scalp clean without stripping your hair. Another alternative if you want to reduce your shampoo use is apple cider vinegar (or ACV). Check out our guide on apple cider vinegar rinses to learn more.

5. Don't be fooled- you DO need to cleanse your hair.

If you rarely experience visibly dirty hair you may be tempted to skip cleansing your hair altogether. However not washing your hair at all can have its consequences. Eventually, your scalp’s natural oils will build up on your strands and keep moisture from penetrating your hair! This can mean dry and brittle hair that lacks shine and luster. Do your hair a favor and give it a wash regularly, even if you don’t think you need to.

At NaturAll, we create and elevate clean haircare and beauty standards, providing freshly-made products that are better for you and your hair. Sourced from small farmers in Jamaica and Ghana. We source ingredients directly from small farmers in Jamaica and Ghana, so we always know how our ingredients are sourced and exactly who is being supported by our business. We are proud to support Black farmers and small businesses around the world. We believe that what goes on your body is as important as what goes in it. Too many hair products are made with synthetic ingredients that are irritating, damaging, or even hazardous, and the problem is worse in hair products marketed to Black women.
